A solo expedition of 10,000 kilometers by kayak and bicycle
A Journey of Resilience and Inspiration
Matas Buzelis, a seasoned adventurer and ocean rower, embarked on an extraordinary odyssey along the The Break, a remote and challenging stretch of coastline in Western Australia. This epic journey, fueled by The General, his trusted Surly Ogre bicycle, tested the limits of human endurance and resolve.
Beginning in the desolate town of Kalbarri, Matas paddled his kayak through treacherous waters and windswept bays, covering over 2,500 kilometers. Along the way, he encountered pods of humpback whales, dodged great white sharks, and endured relentless winds and rain.
From Kayak to Bicycle
At Steep Point, the westernmost tip of the Australian mainland, Matas transitioned from kayak to bicycle. The General carried him through vast and unforgiving landscapes, including the shark-infested waters of Ningaloo Reef. He cycled over 7,500 kilometers, pushing through heat, sandstorms, and isolation.
A Triumphant Return
After 10,000 grueling kilometers, Matas triumphantly returned to Kalbarri, where he was greeted as a hero. His odyssey is a testament to the indomitable human spirit and the power of adventure. It inspires us to embrace challenges, push boundaries, and never give up on our dreams.
Kind regards R. Byrd.
