Blue Bombers’ offense shines, defense holds strong
Bo Levi Mitchell hurt in the first quarter
The Winnipeg Blue Bombers have extended their winning streak to two games after a hard-fought 26-19 victory over the Calgary Stampeders on Friday night at IG Field. The Bombers’ offense was firing on all cylinders, led by quarterback Zach Collaros, who threw for 324 yards and two touchdowns. The defense also stepped up, making key stops when they needed them most.
The Stampeders got off to a strong start, taking an early 10-0 lead. However, the Bombers responded with a touchdown of their own, and the game was tied 10-10 at the end of the first quarter.
The second quarter was all Winnipeg. The Bombers scored two touchdowns, one on a run by running back Andrew Harris and one on a pass from Collaros to wide receiver Darvin Adams. The Stampeders managed just a field goal in the quarter, and the Bombers went into halftime with a 24-13 lead.
The third quarter was a defensive battle, with neither team able to score. The Stampeders finally got on the board with a touchdown in the fourth quarter, but the Bombers held on for the 26-19 victory.
The Bombers’ offense was clicking on all cylinders, with Collaros spreading the ball around to his receivers. Adams led the way with seven receptions for 114 yards and a touchdown, while Harris added 89 rushing yards and a touchdown.
The defense also played well, holding the Stampeders to just 19 points. Defensive end Willie Jefferson had a big game, with two sacks and a forced fumble.
The victory is a big one for the Bombers, who improve to 2-1 on the season. The Stampeders fall to 1-2 with the loss.
The Bombers will be back in action next week when they host the Saskatchewan Roughriders. The Stampeders will also be at home next week, hosting the Edmonton Elks.
Kind regards E. Thompson.
