Mumbai Indians batter Ruturaj Gaikwad was bizarrely run out against Chennai Super Kings on Thursday, April 21, after losing his bat mid-run.
The incident occurred in the 13th over of Mumbai’s innings. Gaikwad drove a delivery from Mukesh Choudhary towards long-off and set off for a single. However, as he approached the non-striker’s end, his bat slipped out of his hands.
Gaikwad scrambled to retrieve his bat, but it proved futile as Choudhary quickly picked up the loose ball and threw it to the wicketkeeper, MS Dhoni, who whipped off the bails to catch Gaikwad short of his crease.
Gaikwad’s dismissal was a major setback for Mumbai, who were struggling at 87-4 at the time. The batter had looked in good touch before his unfortunate run-out, having scored 21 runs off 19 balls.
