Wide receiver Justin Jefferson of the Minnesota Vikings was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence early Sunday morning.
According to the Eden Prairie Police Department, Jefferson was pulled over at around 2:15 a.m. for driving erratically. Officers administered a field sobriety test, which Jefferson failed. He was then taken into custody and booked into the Hennepin County Jail.
Jefferson was released on bail later that day. He is scheduled to appear in court on August 16th.
The Vikings released a statement saying that they are aware of the situation and gathering more information.
Jefferson is one of the most promising young receivers in the NFL. He led the Vikings in receiving yards and touchdowns last season. His arrest is a major blow to the team, who are hoping to make a playoff run this year.
Jefferson’s arrest is also a reminder of the dangers of drinking and driving. Every year, thousands of people are killed or injured in drunk driving accidents. If you are planning to drink, please make sure to designate a sober driver.
