Max Verstappen emerged triumphant from the inaugural Miami Grand Prix Sprint on Saturday, claiming pole position for Sunday’s main race.
The reigning world champion put in a dominant performance around the 5.41-kilometer Miami International Autodrome, setting the fastest time in qualifying and then controlling the 20-lap sprint with ease.
Starting from second on the grid, Ferrari’s Charles Leclerc gave chase but was unable to match Verstappen’s pace. The Dutchman crossed the line almost two seconds clear of the Monegasque driver, with Lewis Hamilton finishing third for Mercedes.
Australian Daniel Ricciardo put in a strong performance for McLaren, climbing from ninth on the grid to finish fourth. The result is a welcome boost for the team, who have struggled for pace so far this season.
The sprint race provided plenty of excitement, with several drivers making bold overtakes and a late safety car period bunching up the field. However, Verstappen remained unfazed throughout, demonstrating his class and composure.
The Miami Grand Prix Sprint was a thrilling spectacle, and it has set the stage for an exciting main race on Sunday. Verstappen will be the favorite to take the victory, but Leclerc, Hamilton, and Ricciardo will all be hoping to challenge him.
The Australian’s performance was particularly impressive, and it suggests that he is starting to find his feet at McLaren. If he can maintain this form, he could be a contender for podium finishes in the races to come.
Stay tuned for all the action from the 2024 Miami Grand Prix main race on Sunday.
Kind regards
