Verstappen Dismisses Claims of RB20 Development Limits
Defending champion scoffs at assertions of reduced updates
Dutchman confident in continued progress despite cost cap
Reigning Formula 1 world champion Max Verstappen has vehemently dismissed claims that Red Bull Racing is facing limitations in developing its RB20 car. Amidst assertions that the team’s budget has been impacted by inflation and the recent cost cap, Verstappen has expressed unwavering confidence in the team’s ability to maintain its competitive edge.
Speaking to reporters at the Bahrain Grand Prix, Verstappen said, There’s been talk that we’re not going to be able to bring as many updates as we want, but I don’t agree with that. I think we have a great team, and we’ll be able to keep developing the car throughout the season.
The Dutchman pointed to the team’s strong performance in pre-season testing as evidence of its continued progress. The car felt good in testing, and I’m confident that we can keep improving it, he said. I’m not worried about us not being able to develop the car enough.
Verstappen’s comments echo those of team principal Christian Horner, who has also expressed optimism about Red Bull’s development plans.
Despite the cost cap challenges, Verstappen believes that Red Bull will be able to find ways to maintain its performance advantage. We have a lot of talented people in the team, and I’m sure they’ll come up with some smart solutions, he said.
Red Bull’s rivals will be eager to see if Verstappen’s confidence is well-founded. The season opener in Bahrain will provide the first real test of the team’s development capabilities.
Only time will tell if Verstappen’s optimism proves to be justified, but the Dutchman’s unwavering belief in his team suggests that Red Bull will be a force to be reckoned with in 2023.
