Warriors Take 3-1 Advantage with 5-2 Win in Game 4
Moose Jaw, SK – The Moose Jaw Warriors took a commanding 3-1 lead in their WHL Eastern Conference semifinal series against the Saskatoon Blades on Saturday night with a 5-2 victory in Game 4 at Mosaic Place.
After dropping Game 1 of the series at home, the Warriors have now won three straight games, including two on the road. Game 5 is set for Monday night in Saskatoon.
Warriors goaltender Brett Mirwald made 28 saves for the win, while Blades netminder Ethan Chadwick stopped 25 shots in the loss.
Unger Leads Warriors Attack
Ryder Unger led the way for the Warriors with a goal and an assist, while Eric Alarie, Tate Schofer, Atley Calvert and Brayden Yager also scored for the winners.
Unger’s goal came on a power play in the second period and gave the Warriors a 3-1 lead at the time. The 19-year-old forward now has three goals and two assists in the series.
Blades Strike First
The Blades opened the scoring in the game just over six minutes into the first period when Kyle Crnkovic tipped in a point shot from Rhett Rhinehart.
The Warriors tied the game less than two minutes later when Alarie scored on a rebound off a shot from defenceman Max Wanner.
Warriors Take Control
Moose Jaw took the lead for good early in the second period when Schofer scored on a wrist shot from the slot. Calvert made it 3-1 for the Warriors with a power-play goal later in the period.
The Blades got one back early in the third period when Egor Sidorov scored on a breakaway, but Yager restored the Warriors’ two-goal lead less than two minutes later.
Blades Face Elimination
The Blades now face elimination in the series and will need to win three straight games to advance to the Eastern Conference final. Game 5 is set for Monday night at SaskTel Centre in Saskatoon.
