Twins Reassign Diego Castillo to Minors
Another Blow to Faltering Bullpen
The Minnesota Twins have reassigned right-handed reliever Diego Castillo to Triple-A St. Paul. The move comes as the Twins’ bullpen continues to struggle, with a 5.43 ERA that ranks 29th in the majors.
Castillo’s Struggles
Castillo, 29, has struggled in 17 appearances this season, posting a 7.11 ERA with 18 walks and 17 strikeouts in 17.1 innings. He has allowed 17 hits, including four home runs.
Bullpen Woes
Castillo’s demotion is the latest setback for the Twins’ bullpen. Closer Jorge Lopez has struggled in his new role, with a 4.91 ERA and four blown saves in 12 chances. Caleb Thielbar, who was expected to be a key setup man, has a 4.50 ERA in 16 appearances.
Depth Issues
The Twins’ lack of depth in the bullpen has been exposed in recent weeks. They have used 14 different relievers this season, and several of them have been ineffective. The team is hoping that Castillo can rediscover his form in the minors and return to the majors soon.
Looking Ahead
The Twins are currently 24-27 and in fourth place in the AL Central. They will need to improve their bullpen if they want to contend for a playoff spot.
Castillo’s reassignment is a reminder of the challenges facing the Twins’ bullpen. The team will need to find a way to get more consistent outings from its relievers if they want to turn their season around.
Kind regards Z. McDowell.
