Randeep Singh Dhaliwal Died in Hit-and-Run in Mississauga
Accused Was Released on Bail with Conditions
The suspect in the tragic death of Sikh activist Randeep Singh Dhaliwal had a court appearance just two days prior to the fatal hit-and-run incident in Mississauga. The accused, 27-year-old Jagdeep Singh, was released on bail with conditions following his appearance at the Brampton courthouse on November 28, 2022.
Dhaliwal, a well-known and respected member of the Sikh community, was struck and killed by a vehicle on November 30, 2022, while walking in the area of Mavis Road and Britannia Road in Mississauga. Police believe that the vehicle intentionally struck Dhaliwal, who succumbed to his injuries at the scene.
Investigators quickly identified Singh as a suspect and arrested him on December 1, 2022. He was charged with first-degree murder and dangerous operation of a motor vehicle causing death. Singh made his first court appearance on December 2, 2022, and was released on $2 million bail.
The conditions of Singh’s bail require him to live with his surety, surrender his passport, and not to contact the victim’s family. He is also prohibited from driving any motor vehicle and must obey a curfew.
The motive for the killing remains under investigation, and police are urging anyone with information to come forward. Dhaliwal’s family and friends are devastated by his loss and are seeking justice for his untimely death.
The Sikh community in Mississauga and across Canada is mourning the loss of one of its prominent members. Dhaliwal was known for his tireless advocacy for human rights, social justice, and the Sikh community.
