The Phoenix Suns are evaluating their coaching options after parting ways with head coach Monty Williams. Williams led the Suns to the NBA Finals in 2021, but the team struggled this season, finishing 34-48 and missing the playoffs.
The Suns have interviewed several candidates for the coaching vacancy including:
- Charles Lee, assistant coach for the Milwaukee Bucks
- Ime Udoka, former head coach of the Boston Celtics
- Adrian Griffin, assistant coach for the Toronto Raptors
- Sam Cassell, assistant coach for the Philadelphia 76ers
- Kevin Young, assistant coach for the Golden State Warriors
The Suns are also considering promoting assistant coach Kevin Durant to the head coaching position. Durant has been with the Suns for the past two seasons and is highly respected by the players and staff.
Meanwhile, James Jones is likely to remain as the Suns’ general manager. Jones has been with the Suns since 2013 and has been instrumental in the team’s recent success. He is credited with drafting Deandre Ayton and Mikal Bridges, two of the Suns’ most important players.
The Suns are expected to make a decision on their coaching vacancy in the coming weeks.
Kind regards L. Dyer.
