A Doctor’s Heart

In October 1945, Takeya Nakamura was executed by the Kempeitai. His tragic death sent shockwaves through the community and beyond. His sacrifice and unwavering commitment to the people of Singapore became a symbol of the horrors of war and the enduring spirit of human compassion.
In the decades that followed, Nakamura’s legacy faded into obscurity. However, in recent years, there has been a growing movement to recognize his contributions. Yusei Kikuchi, a pitcher for the Seattle Mariners, first learned about Takeya Nakamura in 2021 while visiting Singapore. Deeply moved by Nakamura’s story, Kikuchi has become a vocal advocate for his recognition. He has spoken about Nakamura’s heroism at press conferences and social events, and has launched a petition calling for the establishment of a memorial park in Singapore to honor his memory.
