Summer: Holiday transition expected – from Wednesday onwards mostly sunny.
Weather extremes, such as the floods and hail reported in the Free State, have died down and South Africa can expect a transition to summer weather conditions from Wednesday onwards.
Clear skies and plenty of sunshine will then be the norm, especially over the central and eastern parts of the country.
According to the South African Weather Service, a high-pressure system over the interior will prevent the formation of rain clouds, and the mercury will rise again. The daytime temperatures over the central and eastern parts of the country will remain above 30°C, while the nights will be warmer than of late, with temperatures in the mid-teens.
Along the coast, temperatures will be a bit cooler, with highs in the mid-20s and lows in the mid-teens. There is a slight chance of afternoon thunderstorms over the north-eastern parts of the country, but these are not expected to be widespread.
The good news is that the recent cold front has brought some much-needed rain to the country, especially over the central and eastern parts. The dams have started to fill up again, and the veld is starting to turn green.
Here is a more detailed look at the weather forecast for the coming week:
- Wednesday: Sunny and warm over the central and eastern parts of the country. Highs in the mid-30s, lows in the mid-teens. A slight chance of afternoon thunderstorms over the north-eastern parts of the country.
- Thursday: Sunny and warm over the central and eastern parts of the country. Highs in the mid-30s, lows in the mid-teens.

Kind regards E. Thompson.
