Former England cricketer Stuart Broad has criticized Nottingham Forest’s response to the controversial VAR decision that denied them a late equalizer against Arsenal.
Forest were trailing 1-0 when Brennan Johnson thought he had leveled the scores in stoppage time, only for VAR to rule out the goal for a marginal offside.
Forest manager Steve Cooper was furious with the decision and accused VAR of ruining the game. However, Broad believes that Forest’s response was overly emotional.
I understand the frustration, but I think Forest’s response was over the top, Broad said in a column for the Daily Mail.
The VAR decision was correct. Johnson was offside, even if it was only by a toenail. Forest need to accept that and move on.
Broad also criticized Cooper’s comments about VAR, saying that they were unfair to the officials.
The VAR officials are doing their best, Broad said. They’re not there to ruin the game. They’re there to ensure that the right decisions are made.
Forest are now bottom of the Premier League table, but Broad believes that they can still avoid relegation.
Forest have a good squad and a good manager, Broad said. They just need to stay calm and focus on the next game.
