Colombia’s victory in the semi-finals of the Copa América has caused the elimination of Uruguay, a result marked by controversy and disagreements.
The match, held at the Mané Garrincha Stadium in Brasilia, was defined by a single goal scored by Edwin Cardona in the first half, despite Uruguay’s repeated attempts to equalize.
However, the controversy did not arise from the result, but from arbitration decisions involving Uruguay’s Edinson Cavani and Rodrigo Bentancur. Cavani was shown a red card for a dangerous play in the 56th minute, and Bentancur was sent off in the 89th minute for a double yellow card.
Conmebol, the South American Football Confederation, has not yet issued an official statement on the matter, but they are expected to investigate the arbitration of the match and possibly take disciplinary action.
Meanwhile, Colombia advances to the final of the Copa América, where they will face Argentina or Brazil, who will play their semi-final match on Tuesday, July 6th.
The final of the tournament is scheduled for Saturday, July 10th, at the Maracanã Stadium in Rio de Janeiro.
