Undefeated WBO featherweight champ Shakur Stevenson (18-0, 9 KOs) will defend his belt against Armenia’s Artem Harutyunyan (11-0, 7 KOs) on July 6th at the State Farm Arena in Atlanta on ESPN, Top Rank Boxing and ESPN announced on Saturday.
Stevenson, 24, will be fighting in his hometown for the first time since he turned professional in 2017. He said he expects a tough fight from Harutyunyan, who is also undefeated.
He’s a good fighter, he’s undefeated, he’s hungry, Stevenson said. But I’m going to go out there and do what I do. I’m going to box, I’m going to move, and I’m going to win.
Harutyunyan, 31, is a former European champion and is ranked No. 6 by the WBO. He said he is excited to fight Stevenson and confident that he can win.
I’ve been waiting for this opportunity my whole life, Harutyunyan said. I know I’m the underdog, but I’m not afraid of Shakur Stevenson. I’m going to go out there and give it my all.
The fight will be the main event of a card that will also feature the return of former unified heavyweight champion Andy Ruiz Jr. (34-2, 22 KOs). Ruiz will face off against Tyrone Spong (14-0, 13 KOs) in a WBC heavyweight title eliminator.
