Winds Halt Play, Waterlogged Course Presents Challenges
Scottie Scheffler maintained his composure amidst a chaotic third round at the Masters, carding a 6-under 66 after a brief weather-related delay.
Temporary Suspension
Strong winds forced tournament officials to suspend play for approximately 60 minutes, leaving players on the 10th hole. The stoppage allowed the course to recover from the heavy rainfall that had saturated the greens and fairways.
Waterlogged Conditions
Upon resumption, the players faced a waterlogged Augusta National. Approach shots plugged in the rough, and greens were slow and receptive. Scheffler adapted admirably, hitting numerous clutch putts to keep his round on track.
Solid Front Nine
Scheffler started steadily on the front nine, carding birdies on the second, fourth, and sixth holes. A bogey on the eighth was quickly erased with a birdie on the ninth.
Back Nine Surge
The back nine proved even more fruitful for Scheffler. He drained a long eagle putt on the par-5 13th and followed it up with birdies on the 14th and 16th holes.
Late Bogey
A late bogey on the 18th hole slightly tarnished Scheffler’s otherwise impressive round. However, his 66 moved him up the leaderboard, leaving him well-positioned heading into the final day.
Tough Day for Others
While Scheffler thrived in the challenging conditions, others struggled. Rory McIlroy carded a 74, dropping out of contention. Tiger Woods withdrew from the tournament after 54 holes due to ongoing back issues.
