‘He’s Not Back’
Andy Ruiz Jr. has cast doubt over Anthony Joshua’s return to form, claiming the British star has only fought soft targets since their rematch in 2019.
Joshua has won three fights since suffering a shock defeat to Ruiz in June 2019, with victories over Andy Ruiz Jr., Kubrat Pulev, and Oleksandr Usyk.
However, Ruiz believes that Joshua has not faced a truly top-level opponent since their rematch and that he is not yet back to his best.
‘He Needs to Prove Himself’
I don’t think he’s back, Ruiz told Sky Sports. He’s been fighting a bunch of soft targets.
He needs to fight someone who is going to push him, someone who is going to make him work. I don’t think he’s ready for that yet.
Ruiz also questioned Joshua’s decision to fight Usyk, a smaller fighter who is not known for his power.
I don’t understand why he fought Usyk, Ruiz said. Usyk is a good boxer, but he’s not a puncher.
Joshua needs to fight someone who can punch, someone who can hurt him. I think he’s going to struggle against those guys.
‘I’m Ready for Him’
Ruiz also revealed that he would be open to a third fight with Joshua in the future.
I’m ready for him, Ruiz said. I know I can beat him again.
I’m a better fighter now than I was before. I’m stronger, I’m faster, and I’m more confident.
I think I can knock him out this time.
It remains to be seen whether Joshua will take on Ruiz’s challenge. However, the Mexican-American fighter is confident that he can defeat the British star once again.
Kind regards Chris Christensen.
