Ottawa’s Defense Shines
The Ottawa Redblacks defense held the Edmonton Elks to just 14 points, extending the Elks’ winless streak to start the 2023 season.
Standout performances from Shawn Lemon and Abdul Kanneh helped the Redblacks keep the Elks offense in check, forcing a fumble and recording a sack, respectively.
Key Defensive Plays
Redblacks Offense Grinds Out Victory
While the Redblacks defense played a stellar game, the offense also contributed to the victory, albeit less spectacularly.
Quarterback Nick Arbuckle threw for 201 yards and a touchdown, and running back Brendan Gillanders rushed for 93 yards, providing a consistent ground game for Ottawa.
Elks Struggle Continues
The Elks’ offense struggled throughout the game, unable to find any rhythm or consistency.
Ford finished with 228 passing yards but was sacked four times and threw an interception. Running back Ante Milanovic had 104 rushing yards but couldn’t generate enough offense to lift the Elks.
Outlook for Both Teams
The Redblacks improve to 2-4 with the victory, while the Elks remain winless at 0-6.
The Redblacks will look to continue their momentum next week when they host the 3-3 Montreal Alouettes.
The Elks, meanwhile, will try to break their losing streak when they face the 4-2 Calgary Stampeders at home next week.
