Dortmund’s Financial Difficulties Hinder Deal
Negotiations for the highly anticipated transfer of Lyon’s young star, Rayan Cherki, to Borussia Dortmund have reportedly stalled due to the German club’s financial constraints.
Dortmund, who have been long-term admirers of Cherki and have been monitoring his progress for several seasons, had made a formal offer to Lyon for his services.
Lyon’s High Asking Price
However, Lyon are demanding a significant transfer fee for Cherki, who is considered one of the most promising talents in European football. Dortmund, who are currently facing financial difficulties due to the COVID-19 pandemic, are said to be struggling to match Lyon’s asking price.
Alternative Options for Cherki
With the transfer to Dortmund now seemingly in doubt, Cherki is said to be considering other options. The likes of Real Madrid, Manchester City, and Arsenal have all been linked with an interest in the 19-year-old forward.
Lyon’s Stance
Lyon remain adamant that they will only sell Cherki if a club meets their financial demands. The club’s president, Jean-Michel Aulas, has stated that the club is not in a position to sell its best players for anything less than their market value.
Dortmund’s Disappointment
Dortmund are said to be disappointed by the news that their pursuit of Cherki has hit a setback. The club had identified the French youngster as a key target for their rebuild under new manager Edin Terzić.
Cherki’s Future in Limbo
With the transfer to Dortmund now in doubt, Cherki’s future remains uncertain. The player himself is said to be keen on a move to a top European club, but he may have to wait until the summer before his next move is finalized.
