Police Scotland has handed over a report on the SNP’s finances to the Crown Office.
The Crown Office will now consider whether there is enough evidence to open a formal investigation into the party’s finances.
The report, which was commissioned by Police Scotland in 2021, is understood to focus on donations made to the SNP and how they were used.
The SNP has said it is confident it has complied with all electoral law and will cooperate with any investigation.
A spokesperson for the Crown Office said: We can confirm that we have received a report from Police Scotland in relation to the SNP. We are currently considering the contents of that report.

The report is the latest development in a long-running investigation into the SNP’s finances.
In 2019, the Electoral Commission launched an investigation into the party’s finances following allegations that it had accepted illegal donations.
The Electoral Commission found that the SNP had accepted £5,000 from a businessman who was based in Canada and was not entitled to vote in the UK.
The SNP was fined £20,000 for the breach of electoral law.
In 2021, Police Scotland launched its own investigation into the SNP’s finances.
The investigation was commissioned by the Crown Office and is understood to focus on donations made to the SNP and how they were used.
