Subject to Availability and Status
Rising star Regis Prograis has signalled his intentions to challenge Matias Bout for the WBA (Regular) welterweight title, with a timeframe of 2024 or 2025.
Prograis, 28, is one of the most exciting fighters in the division and is currently ranked #4 by the WBA. He has won all 27 of his professional fights, including impressive victories over Ivan Barancyk and Juan Jose Velasco.
Bout, also 28, won the WBA (Regular) title in December 2022 with a unanimous decision victory over Eimantas Stanionis. He is a tough and skilled fighter, but Prograis believes he has the style and power to beat him.
I think I match up really well with Matias Bout, said Prograis. I’m a bigger puncher than him, and I think I can outbox him. I just need to get the fight.
Bout Availability
Bout is expected to make a mandatory defence of his title against Radzhab Butaev in the first half of 2023. If he wins that fight, he is likely to face the winner of the rematch between Errol Spence Jr. and Terence Crawford.
If Prograis can wait until 2024 or 2025 to challenge Bout, he could get his chance if Bout is victorious against Butaev, Spence and Crawford.
Prograis is confident that he can beat Bout and become the WBA (Regular) welterweight champion.
I’m working hard every day, and I’m ready for whatever comes next, said Prograis. I know I can beat Matias Bout, and I’m going to get my chance to prove it.
Kind regards
