The police are increasing their presence in Salzwedel due to the upcoming biker meeting. From August 12 to 14, 2023, the small town in Saxony-Anhalt will once again be the venue for the Altmark Classics.
What to expect
During the three days, up to 20,000 motorcyclists are expected in Salzwedel. The police are therefore planning increased checks on traffic, especially on the federal highways 71 and 248. In addition, there will be random alcohol and drug tests.
Police presence
The police will be on duty with a large contingent of officers. In addition to the regular patrol service, there will also be special task forces and traffic control units. The police will also be using drones and helicopters to monitor the traffic situation.
Background
The Altmark Classics is one of the largest biker meetings in Germany. The event has been held in Salzwedel since 2004. In recent years, there have been repeated incidents of noise pollution, traffic violations and fights. The police want to prevent this with their increased presence.
In addition to the police checks, there will also be a number of road closures and traffic diversions in Salzwedel during the biker meeting. Motorcyclists are advised to follow the instructions of the police and to be prepared for delays.
