Analysis
The top 10 running backs in PFF’s rankings are all elite players who have proven themselves to be capable of carrying a heavy workload and producing at a high level. Henry, McCaffrey, and Kamara are the cream of the crop, and they are all capable of being the focal point of their team’s offense.
The next tier of running backs, consisting of Elliott, Cook, Chubb, Barkley, and Fournette, are all excellent players who can be relied upon to produce consistently. They may not be as dynamic as the top three, but they are all capable of being lead backs on their respective teams.
The third tier of running backs, consisting of Swift, Jones, Hunt, and Etienne, are all talented players who have shown flashes of brilliance. However, they have yet to prove that they can consistently produce at a high level.
The fourth tier of running backs, consisting of Dobbins, Mostert, Sanders, and Patterson, are all capable players who can contribute to their teams in a variety of ways. They may not be the most talented running backs in the NFL, but they can all be valuable pieces to their respective offenses.
