AfD accuses Grote of partisan political action
The AfD has filed a constitutional complaint against Federal Interior Minister Nancy Faeser (SPD). The party accuses Faeser of partisan political action and endangering the democratic constitutional order. The AfD’s federal chairman, Tino Chrupalla, said on Tuesday in Berlin that Faeser had repeatedly violated the principle of party neutrality.
Unprecedented attacks on the judiciary
As an example, Chrupalla cited Faeser’s statements about the Thuringian AfD politician Björn Höcke. Faeser had accused Höcke of being a fascist and a Nazi. According to Chrupalla, these are unprecedented attacks on the judiciary that undermine trust in the state and its institutions.
In addition, the AfD accuses Faeser of having systematically disadvantaged the party in the allocation of federal funds. The party sees this as a violation of the principle of equal treatment.
Constitutional Court to review complaint
The Constitutional Court will now review the AfD’s complaint. It is not yet clear when a decision will be made. However, if the court were to rule in favor of the AfD, Faeser could be forced to resign from her post as Interior Minister.
The AfD is the largest opposition party in the Bundestag. The party is right-wing populist and has repeatedly been accused of racism and xenophobia.
- The AfD has been under increasing pressure in recent months. In March, the party was classified as a case of concern by the Federal Office for the Protection of the Constitution.
- In addition, several AfD politicians have been accused of extremism and right-wing terrorism.
The constitutional complaint against Faeser is seen as an attempt by the AfD to regain the initiative. However, it is unclear whether the party will be successful with its complaint. The Constitutional Court is known for its strict adherence to the letter of the law.
Kind regards E. Thompson.
