A Mutual Commitment to the Future
In a move that solidifies their commitment to their young core, the Indiana Pacers and Andrew Nembhard have agreed to a three-year, $59 million contract extension. The deal, which includes a player option for the final year, ties the promising point guard to the franchise through the 2025-26 season.
Nembhard’s Rise to Prominence
Andrew Nembhard, a 6’3 point guard, was selected by the Pacers with the 31st overall pick in the 2020 NBA Draft. After spending his first two seasons on a two-way contract, Nembhard broke out in the 2022-23 campaign, starting all but one game and averaging 9.3 points, 3.4 rebounds, and 4.1 assists per game.
Nembhard’s impressive playmaking, defensive prowess, and leadership qualities have made him an indispensable part of the Pacers’ young nucleus. His extension is a testament to the faith that the organization has in his continued growth and impact on the team.
A Bright Future for the Pacers
With Nembhard locked in for the next three years, the Pacers can now focus on building around him and their other talented young players. The team boasts several promising prospects, including Tyrese Haliburton, Bennedict Mathurin, and Jalen Smith, who have all shown flashes of brilliance in their early careers.
The Pacers are in a prime position to emerge as a playoff contender in the Eastern Conference. With Nembhard’s contract extension, they have secured the services of a key piece of their future puzzle and taken a significant step towards achieving their goals.
