Shane Pinto Signs Two-Year Extension With Ottawa Senators
Senators Lock Up Young Star
The Ottawa Senators have signed Shane Pinto to a two-year contract extension worth $2.75 million per season. The deal will keep the young centerman in Ottawa through the 2024-25 season.
Promising Future
Pinto, 21, has quickly emerged as one of the Senators’ most promising young players. The Las Vegas native was drafted by Ottawa with the 32nd overall pick in the 2019 NHL Entry Draft.
In his rookie season in 2021-22, Pinto played in 55 games and recorded 14 points (five goals, nine assists). He also impressed with his defensive play and physicality.
This season, Pinto has taken his game to another level. In 38 games, he has already matched his point total from his rookie year. He has also shown improvement in his face-off ability and overall hockey IQ.
Senators general manager Pierre Dorion praised Pinto’s development and potential.
Shane has proven himself to be a valuable asset to our team, Dorion said. He’s a skilled offensive player who also plays a responsible game defensively. We’re excited to see what he can accomplish in the years to come.
Key Player for Ottawa’s Future
Pinto’s extension is a significant step for the Senators, who are looking to build a competitive team around their young core.
The Senators have a number of talented players in their system, including Tim Stützle, Drake Batherson, and Alex DeBrincat. Pinto’s signing gives Ottawa another piece to build around.
Pinto is eager to help the Senators reach their goals.
I’m excited to be a part of this team and this community, Pinto said. I believe in what we’re building here, and I’m looking forward to helping us achieve success.
The Senators will be back in action on Tuesday night when they host the Boston Bruins. Pinto is expected to be in the lineup.
Kind regards R. Bauer.
