Right-hander to Make Major League Debut on Monday
The Baltimore Orioles will call up right-hander Vinny Nittoli from Triple-A Norfolk to make his Major League debut on Monday against the Tampa Bay Rays, manager Brandon Hyde announced on Sunday.
Nittoli, 26, has been one of the most dominant pitchers in the International League this season, posting a 3.18 ERA with 153 strikeouts in 128.1 innings. He has held opponents to a .204 batting average and has walked just 31 batters.
The 6-foot-3, 225-pound Nittoli was signed by the Orioles as a free agent in 2019. He spent the 2020 season at the team’s alternate training site and made his Triple-A debut in 2021.
Nittoli will be the first Orioles pitcher to make his Major League debut this season. He will be the first pitcher to debut for the Orioles since Dean Kremer on May 19, 2021.
What to Expect from Nittoli
Nittoli is a power pitcher with a fastball that can reach 98 mph. He also has a good changeup and slider.
Nittoli is expected to be used as a starter for the Orioles. He will likely be on a pitch count in his debut, but he could be stretched out to pitch deeper into games as the season progresses.
Nittoli’s Call-Up is a Sign of Orioles’ Progress
Nittoli’s call-up is a sign of the progress that the Orioles have made in recent years. The team has been rebuilding since 2018, and they are now starting to see the fruits of their labor.
The Orioles have a number of young players who are ready to contribute at the Major League level. Nittoli is one of those players, and he could be a key part of the Orioles’ success in the years to come.
Kind regards Z. McDowell.
