Miracle needed on final day, but….
Lancashire’s title dream fades after defeat at Kent
Lancashire’s title dreams are hanging by a thread after they suffered a disappointing defeat to Kent in the LV= Insurance County Championship.
The Red Rose county needed a positive result at Canterbury to keep their hopes of a first title since 2011 alive, but they were outplayed by a Kent side who are now in pole position to lift the Division One trophy.
Lancashire were bowled out for just 176 in their first innings, with only Keaton Jennings (56) and Luke Wells (43) making significant contributions.
Kent then took a firm grip on the match by declaring on 351-9, setting Lancashire a target of 346 to win.
The Red Rose batters showed more fight in their second innings, but they were eventually bowled out for 284, with Josh Bohannon (70) and Jennings (62) the top scorers.
The defeat leaves Lancashire needing a miracle on the final day of the season if they are to win the title.
