A Look at the Hurdles Faced by the Promising Pitcher
Adrian Houser, the talented right-hander acquired by the New York Mets in a trade with the Milwaukee Brewers, is going through a most challenging period of his career, according to manager Buck Showalter.
Inconsistent Performances
Houser has struggled to find consistency on the mound this season. In his first seven starts with the Mets, he has a 6.00 ERA and a 1.43 WHIP. He has allowed 39 hits and 21 walks in 36 innings pitched.
He’s pressing a little bit, Showalter said. He wants to make a good impression, but he needs to relax and let his stuff work.
Mechanical Issues
Houser has also been dealing with mechanical issues that have affected his command. He has been working with pitching coach Jeremy Hefner to correct these problems.
We’ve made some adjustments, Hefner said. We’re trying to get him to stay back longer and use his legs more.
Injury Concerns
In addition to his mechanical issues, Houser has also been bothered by a minor injury. He missed a start in early May with a groin strain.
It’s not a major issue, Showalter said. But it’s something we need to monitor.
Mental Hurdles
Beyond the physical challenges, Houser is also facing mental hurdles. He has never been traded before, and he is adjusting to a new team and a new city.
It’s been a lot to take in, Houser said. But I’m grateful for the opportunity to be here. I’m confident that I can overcome these challenges and contribute to this team.
Support from the Mets
The Mets are providing Houser with the support he needs to navigate this difficult period. Showalter and Hefner are working closely with him to improve his mechanics and address his mental concerns.
We believe in Adrian, Showalter said. He has the talent to be a successful pitcher in this league. We’re going to give him the time and resources he needs to reach his potential.
Outlook for the Future
It remains to be seen when Houser will be able to turn things around. But the Mets are confident that he has the ability to be a valuable member of their rotation.
If Houser can overcome his current struggles, he could be a major asset for the Mets. He has a great fastball and a solid repertoire of secondary pitches. He also has a strong work ethic and a competitive spirit.
The Mets are hoping that Houser can find his footing soon and help them contend for a playoff berth.
