After an injury-hit Dakar Rally in 2023, Matthieu Jauffraud is looking ahead to a potential comeback in 2026.
Injury Hampered 2023 Dakar Rally Attempt
Jauffraud, a French rally-raid racer, was forced to withdraw from the 2023 Dakar Rally after suffering a broken collarbone in a crash during the opening stage.
The injury was a major setback for Jauffraud, who had been targeting a top-five finish in the malle moto class. He had been showing strong form in the lead-up to the rally, winning the Merzouga Rally in Morocco just a few weeks before the Dakar.
Recovery and Rehabilitation
Jauffraud underwent surgery to repair his collarbone and has since been undergoing rehabilitation. He is now back on the bike and is gradually building up his fitness.
Looking Ahead to 2026
Although he is not expected to be ready to return to competition until 2026, Jauffraud is already looking ahead to a comeback at the Dakar Rally.
“I’m not giving up on my dream of winning the Dakar Rally,” he said. “I know it will be a tough challenge, but I’m determined to come back stronger than ever in 2026.”
Support from Family and Friends
Jauffraud has received a lot of support from his family and friends during his recovery. He is grateful for their support and is using it as motivation to get back on the bike and achieve his goals.
“I’m so grateful for the support I’ve received from my family and friends,” he said. “They’ve been there for me every step of the way and I wouldn’t be where I am today without them.”
Future Plans
In the meantime, Jauffraud is planning to compete in some smaller rallies in 2024 and 2025 to get some more race experience under his belt.
He is also working on developing a new bike for the 2026 Dakar Rally. He is confident that the new bike will give him the edge he needs to challenge for the win.
“I’m excited about the future and I’m confident that I can come back and win the Dakar Rally,” he said.
