Police say the suspect was planning an attack on the Games
A man has been arrested on suspicion of terrorism ahead of the Olympic Games, police said.
The 25-year-old suspect was arrested in a pre-planned operation by counter-terrorism officers in east London on Tuesday.
Police said they believe the suspect was planning an attack on the Games, which are due to begin on Friday.
The suspect is being held in custody at a south London police station.
A spokesman for the Metropolitan Police said: The arrest was made as part of an ongoing investigation into suspected terrorist activity.
The suspect was arrested on suspicion of being concerned in the commission, preparation or instigation of acts of terrorism.
He has been taken to a south London police station where he remains in custody.
The arrest comes as police are on high alert for any potential terrorist threat to the Olympics.
The Games are being held in London from July 27 to August 12.
