Farewell to a Heavyweight Champion
The 43-year-old Browne, a former WBA heavyweight champion, made the announcement at a press conference in Sydney. Reflecting on his illustrious career, Browne expressed gratitude for the support he had received from fans, family, and coaches.
It’s a bittersweet moment, but I’m excited about the new chapter in my life, Browne said. Boxing has given me everything, but it’s time for me to step away and focus on other things.
A Legacy in the Ring
Browne’s career spanned over two decades and saw him claim the WBA heavyweight belt in 2016. He also held the WBO Oriental and IBF Australasian heavyweight titles.
Known for his powerful punches and granite chin, Browne faced some of the biggest names in the heavyweight division, including Dillian Whyte, Ruslan Chagaev, and Shannon Briggs.
Time for New Challenges
While Browne is retiring from competitive boxing, he plans to remain involved in the sport as a coach and mentor to aspiring fighters. He also hinted at pursuing other interests outside of boxing, including music and fitness.
