Knights take 2-1 series lead heading into Game 4 Tuesday in Saginaw
The London Knights extended their home-ice advantage over the Saginaw Spirit after a 4-3 victory in Game 3 of the Ontario Hockey League Western Conference Finals at Budweiser Gardens Monday night.
The Knights took an early lead in the first period, with goals from Luke Evangelista and Logan Mailloux, but the Spirit battled back and tied it 2-2 in the second period on goals from Joey Willis and Kirill Marchenko.
Michael Misa put the Knights back in front early in the third period, and Evangelista’s second of the night, an empty-net goal, sealed the victory late in the frame.
London goaltender Brett Brochu made 28 saves for the win, while Saginaw netminder Tristan Lennox stopped 37 shots in the loss.
Knights Head Coach Dale Hunter
It was great to get a win tonight. We played a good game and we were able to get a few goals early, which is always important.
Saginaw is a good team and they’re not going to go away, so we need to make sure that we come out strong and play our best in Game 4.
Spirit Head Coach Chris Lazary
We battled hard tonight and we had our chances, but we couldn’t get enough pucks past Brochu tonight.
We need to be better in Game 4 and we need to find a way to get more pucks to the net.
The series now shifts to Saginaw for Game 4 Tuesday night. The Knights will look to take a commanding 3-1 series lead, while the Spirit will be looking to tie the series and regain home-ice advantage.
The puck drops at The Dow Event Center at 7:05 p.m. ET.
