Jamie Carragher has expressed concern over Liverpool’s lack of options in the full-back positions, branding it a worry.
The Reds have been heavily reliant on Trent Alexander-Arnold and Andy Robertson in recent seasons, with neither player having a natural deputy.
Alexander-Arnold Injury
Alexander-Arnold’s recent injury has highlighted the issue, with James Milner and Joe Gomez having to fill in at right-back.
Carragher believes Liverpool need to address the situation in the summer transfer window.
It’s a worry
It’s a worry for Liverpool, Carragher said on Sky Sports.
They have two world-class full-backs in Alexander-Arnold and Robertson, but there’s no one else who can come in and play at their level.
Milner and Gomez are both good players, but they’re not natural full-backs.
If Alexander-Arnold or Robertson get injured again, Liverpool could be in trouble.
Transfer Options
Carragher has suggested that Liverpool could look to sign a new right-back and left-back in the summer.
There are a few players out there who could be good options for Liverpool, Carragher said.
Nordi Mukiele at RB Leipzig and Jeremie Frimpong at Bayer Leverkusen are two players who have been linked with the club.
They’re both young, talented full-backs who could challenge Alexander-Arnold and Robertson for their places in the team.
- Nordi Mukiele
- Jeremie Frimpong
Liverpool will need to assess their options carefully in the summer transfer window. They need to find a player who can provide cover for Alexander-Arnold and Robertson, but who is also good enough to challenge them for their places in the team.
If they can do that, they will have a much stronger squad for the 2023/24 season.
