Lions improve to 4-3, while Hamilton falls to 0-6
The Hamilton Tiger-Cats fell to 0-6 on Saturday night, after losing 47-15 to the visiting BC Lions. The Lions, now 4-3, feasted on the Tiger-Cats’ mistakes, scoring five touchdowns off of turnovers.
The Lions got on the board first, with a 37-yard field goal by Richie Leone. The Tiger-Cats responded with a touchdown of their own, a 2-yard run by quarterback Jeremiah Masoli. But the Lions regained the lead with a 75-yard touchdown pass from Michael Reilly to Bryan Burnham.
The Lions extended their lead in the second quarter, with a 4-yard touchdown run by Reilly. The Tiger-Cats cut the lead to 20-15 with a 15-yard touchdown pass from Masoli to Brandon Banks. But the Lions scored again just before halftime, with a 25-yard field goal by Leone.
The Lions continued to pour it on in the second half, scoring two more touchdowns off of turnovers. The first came on a 42-yard interception return by Chandler Fenner, and the second came on a 35-yard fumble return by Micah Awe.
The Tiger-Cats finally got back on the board in the fourth quarter, with a 30-yard field goal by Sergio Castillo. But the Lions added another touchdown late in the game, with a 1-yard run by Reilly.
The Lions outgained the Tiger-Cats 498-279 in total yards, and they forced four turnovers to the Tiger-Cats’ one.
Reilly finished the game with 362 passing yards and two touchdowns. Burnham led the Lions in receiving with 108 yards on five catches, including the touchdown.
Masoli finished the game with 223 passing yards and one touchdown. Banks led the Tiger-Cats in receiving with 104 yards on six catches, including the touchdown.
The Tiger-Cats will look to end their losing streak next week, when they travel to Toronto to take on the Argonauts. The Lions will return home to host the Ottawa Redblacks.
