McElroy, Moss Lead Knights to Victory
The Henderson Silver Knights forced a Game 7 in their first-round playoff series with the Texas Stars on Friday night with a 2-0 shutout victory at the Orleans Arena.
Logan Thompson made 23 saves to earn the shutout, while Ben McCartney and Brayden Pachal scored the goals for Henderson.
The Knights got off to a strong start, outshooting the Stars 13-5 in the first period. They finally broke through on the power play late in the period when McCarty deflected a shot from Jake Leschyshyn past Stars goaltender Landon Bow.
Henderson continued to control the play in the second period, outshooting Texas 12-6. They doubled their lead midway through the period when Pachal scored on a wrist shot from the top of the circle.
The Stars had a few chances to get back in the game in the third period, but Thompson was there to make the saves. The Knights held on for the 2-0 victory and forced a Game 7 on Sunday in Texas.
McElroy, Moss Lead Knights
Nic McElroy and Jonas Rondbjerg each had two assists for the Knights, while Kaedan Korczak and Pavel Dorofeyev each had one assist.
McElroy is now tied for the team lead in scoring in the playoffs with four points (three goals, one assist). Moss has three points (two goals, one assist) in the playoffs.
Thompson Shuts Down Stars
Thompson made 23 saves to earn his second shutout of the playoffs. He has a 1.54 goals-against average and a .943 save percentage in the playoffs.
Thompson has been a key part of the Knights’ success this season. He has a 2.63 goals-against average and a .916 save percentage in the regular season.
Series Returns to Texas for Game 7
The series returns to Texas for Game 7 on Sunday. The Stars need to win to advance to the second round of the playoffs, while the Knights need to win to force a third and deciding game.
Game 7 is set for 6:00 p.m. PT at the H-E-B Center in Cedar Park, Texas.
