New York acquires additional players in revised deal
The New York Knicks have expanded their trade with the Brooklyn Nets to acquire Mikal Bridges, Cam Johnson, and Jae Crowder, according to ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski.
The revised deal, which was finalized on Monday, was necessary to avoid a hard cap penalty for the Knicks. The original trade, which was agreed upon last week, would have put the Knicks over the hard cap of $112 million, which would have restricted their ability to make further offseason moves.
With the expanded trade, the Knicks were able to stay under the hard cap by sending additional players to the Nets. Those players included Svi Mykhailiuk, Jalen Brunson, and Isaiah Hartenstein.
The Knicks now have a deep and versatile roster
The addition of Bridges, Johnson, and Crowder gives the Knicks a much-needed boost on the wing. Bridges is a two-time All-Defensive Team selection who can also contribute on offense, averaging 14.5 points per game last season. Johnson is a sharpshooter who has shot 42.9% from three-point range in his career. Crowder is a veteran forward who brings toughness and leadership to the team.
With the addition of these three players, the Knicks now have a deep and versatile roster that should be able to compete for a playoff spot in the Eastern Conference.
The Nets continue to rebuild
The Nets, meanwhile, continue to rebuild after trading away Kevin Durant and Kyrie Irving earlier this season. The Nets have now acquired a number of young players and draft picks in recent months, and they are hoping to build a contender around them in the future.
