Opposition leader Cristina Kirchner has accused libertarian economist Javier Milei of inflicting unnecessary suffering on Argentines, as the country grapples with a deepening economic crisis.
In a speech to supporters in the northern province of Chaco, Kirchner said that Milei’s policies would only serve to worsen the plight of the country’s most vulnerable citizens.
Milei’s proposals are not only unrealistic, but they would also cause a great deal of unnecessary suffering, Kirchner said. He wants to eliminate social programs, which would leave millions of people without food, housing, and healthcare.
Kirchner, who is a former president of Argentina, said that Milei’s ideas were based on a selfish ideology that favored the wealthy at the expense of the poor.
Milei is a wolf in sheep’s clothing, she said. He pretends to be a champion of the people, but he is really just a pawn of the rich and powerful.
He has promised to cut taxes, deregulate the economy, and eliminate all forms of social assistance.
Kirchner’s comments come as Argentina is facing its worst economic crisis in years. The country is currently suffering from high inflation, a sharp decline in the value of the peso, and a growing budget deficit.
The government has been forced to implement a series of austerity measures, which have led to cuts in social spending and public sector wages.
Kirchner’s speech was met with thunderous applause by her supporters. She remains a popular figure among many Argentines, despite being a controversial figure.
