A Discussion of the 2024 MLB Season
Introduction
Welcome to the July 9th, 2024 edition of the FanGraphs Chat. I’m Jay Jaffe, and I’ll be here for the next hour or so to answer your questions about the 2024 MLB season. We’re about a quarter of the way through the season, and there have already been some surprises. So, let’s get started.
Questions and Answers
- What are your thoughts on the New York Yankees’ slow start, being 20-30 at this point?
- Who are some of the breakout players of the 2024 season?
- What are your predictions for the rest of the 2024 season?
The Yankees have been one of the most disappointing teams in baseball this year. They were expected to be a World Series contender, but they’ve struggled to score runs and their bullpen has been shaky. I’m not sure what the problem is, but they need to figure it out soon.
There have been a number of breakout players this year, including JT Brubaker of the Pittsburgh Pirates and Ha-seong Kim of the San Diego Padres. Both players have been hitting for power and getting on base at a high clip. I’m excited to see how they continue to develop.
It’s still early in the season, but I think the Los Angeles Dodgers are the team to beat in the National League. They have a deep lineup, a strong rotation, and a solid bullpen. In the American League, I like the Houston Astros. They have a lot of young talent, and they’re playing with a lot of confidence.
Conclusion
