Former Angels First Baseman Seeks Fresh Start in Chicago
Jared Walsh, the former first baseman for the Los Angeles Angels, has inked a minor league contract with the Chicago White Sox, according to multiple reports.
Walsh, 29, was a key contributor to the Angels’ success in recent years, batting .277 with 98 home runs and 347 RBIs in 548 games over four seasons.
However, he struggled mightily in the first half of the 2023 season, hitting just .219 with 12 home runs and 44 RBIs in 89 games. He was eventually released by the Angels in August.
Walsh will now look to resurrect his career in Chicago. He is expected to provide depth at first base behind All-Star Jose Abreu.
Versatility and Power
Walsh brings a wealth of experience and versatility to the White Sox. In addition to playing first base, he can also play outfield and designated hitter.
He is also known for his power bat, having hit at least 29 home runs in each of the past three full seasons. Walsh’s ability to hit for power and get on base will be a valuable asset for the White Sox.
Looking Forward
Walsh expressed excitement about joining the White Sox in a statement released by the team.
I’m thrilled to be a part of the Chicago White Sox organization, Walsh said. I’m looking forward to contributing to the team’s success and helping us win a championship.
The White Sox are hopeful that Walsh can return to his previous form and provide a boost to their lineup. He is expected to compete for a starting role in spring training.
Kind regards,
Z. McDowell
