Former Australia Batsman Rules Himself Out
Former Australia batsman Mike Hussey has ruled himself out of the running to become India’s next head coach due to the constant cricket tours required by the role.
Time Constraints
Hussey, who retired from international cricket in 2013, said that the time constraints of the job would not allow him to spend enough time with his family.
I’m at a stage in my life where I want to be able to spend more time with my family, Hussey said. The India coaching job is a very demanding one, and it would require me to be away from home for long periods of time. I’m not prepared to do that at this point in my life.
Constant Travel
The India cricket team is one of the busiest in the world, with a packed schedule of international tours and tournaments. Hussey said that the constant travel would be too much for him at this stage of his life.
I’ve been playing and coaching cricket for a long time, and I’m starting to feel the effects of all the travel, Hussey said. I’m not sure that I could handle the rigors of the India coaching job anymore.
Other Contenders
With Hussey out of the running, the race to become India’s next head coach is now wide open. Other contenders for the role include:
- Ravi Shastri (former India head coach)
- Tom Moody (former Sri Lanka head coach)
- Stephen Fleming (former New Zealand head coach)
- Gary Kirsten (former India head coach)
The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is expected to announce the new head coach in the coming weeks.
Kind regards
