Grizzlies Acquire Big Man, Nets Add Young Prospect
The Memphis Grizzlies and Brooklyn Nets completed a trade on Monday involving Grizzlies’ forward Ziaire Williams and a 2030 second-round pick in exchange for Nets’ center Mamadi Diakite.
Williams, 21, has appeared in 64 games for the Grizzlies this season, averaging 4.2 points, 2.7 rebounds, and 1.7 assists. However, he fell out of the Grizzlies’ rotation in recent weeks, making only one appearance in their last six games.
Diakite, 25, has seen limited action for the Nets this season, with 14 total appearances and just 57 minutes played. At 6’9”, he provides the Grizzlies with a physical presence in the paint and has shown potential as a rebounder and defender.
Benefits for Grizzlies
* Acquire a young prospect with upside in Ziaire Williams.
* Bolster their roster with a physical presence down low.
* Open up roster spot for potential future acquisitions.
Benefits for Nets
* Clear a path for increased minutes for young players in their rotation.
* Add a veteran big man with playoff experience in Mamadi Diakite.
* Gain a future draft asset in the 2030 second-round pick.
The trade is seen as a low-risk, high-reward move for both teams. The Grizzlies get a young player with potential, while the Nets bring in a veteran with playoff experience and clear roster space.
