Davis Breaks Down Haney’s Loss
Gervonta Tank Davis, the reigning WBA lightweight champion, has weighed in on Devin Haney’s recent loss to George Kambosos Jr., calling it a revelation that exposed Haney’s limitations.
Tank’s Analysis
I knew it [Haney’s loss] was coming, Davis said in an interview with FightHype. He [Haney] talks a lot of trash, but he’s not as extraordinary as they make him out to be.
He has good skills, but he doesn’t have that killer instinct. He’s not the type of fighter who’s going to put you away. He’s more of a boxer, and boxers can be outboxed.
Davis highlighted Kambosos’s relentless pressure and aggression as key factors in Haney’s downfall.
Kambosos is a dog. He’s not afraid to get in there and bang it out. He pushed the pace and made Haney fight his fight. That’s what a lot of these young fighters need to do against Haney – take him out of his comfort zone and force him to fight.
Implications for the Lightweight Division
Davis’s comments have sent shockwaves through the lightweight division. Haney was widely considered the top pound-for-pound fighter in the world, and his loss has opened up the door for other contenders to make their mark.
The lightweight division is wide open now, Davis said. I’m the best fighter in the division, and I’m ready to fight anyone.
I’m not going to give Devin Haney any credit for what he’s done. He hasn’t fought anyone of note. He’s been protected. I’m the real deal, and I’m ready to prove it.
Davis’s Next Steps
Davis is set to defend his WBA lightweight title against Rolando Romero on December 5. A victory over Romero would further solidify Davis’s status as the top dog in the division and set the stage for potential mega-fights against Haney or Kambosos in the future.
Kind regards C. Christensen.
