Hinting at a Long-Term Possibility
Despite the recent announcement of a partnership between Epic Games and Facebook, Epic CEO Tim Sweeney has stated that there are no immediate plans to bring Fortnite to the Meta Quest headset. However, he hinted at the possibility of the game being developed for the platform in the future.
Technical Challenges
Sweeney cited technical challenges as the primary reason for the lack of Fortnite on Quest. He explained that the game’s complex graphics and large file size make it difficult to port to the standalone VR platform.
“The Quest has made great strides, but it’s still a mobile device at its core,” said Sweeney. “The graphical demands of ‘Fortnite’ are simply too high for it to run smoothly at the moment.”
Optimism for the Future
Despite the current limitations, Sweeney expressed optimism about the possibility of Fortnite coming to Quest in the future. He stated that Meta’s continued investment in VR technology could eventually make it possible to bring the game to the platform.
“We’re excited about what Meta is doing with VR. Their focus on innovation and user experience is impressive,” said Sweeney. “If they can continue to push the boundaries of hardware and software, we believe that ‘Fortnite’ on Quest could become a reality in the future.”
Meta’s Commitment
Meta has stated that it is committed to making its hardware more powerful and VR experiences more immersive. The company recently announced a new VR headset, Project Cambria, which is expected to be more capable than the Quest.
Conclusion
While Fortnite may not be coming to Quest anytime soon, Epic Games is keeping the possibility open. The continued development of VR technology could eventually make it possible to bring the popular game to the standalone headset.
Kind regards
