Mako Vunipola, a member of the England rugby squad, has been arrested in Majorca after allegedly being involved in a fight outside a nightclub.
According to local media reports, Vunipola was arrested in the early hours of Friday morning in the resort of Magaluf. He was reportedly involved in a fight with another man outside a nightclub.
Vunipola has been charged with assault and is due to appear in court later today. The Rugby Football Union (RFU) has said that it is aware of the incident and is investigating.
Vunipola is a key member of the England squad and has been capped 60 times by his country. He was part of the team that won the Six Nations Championship in 2016.
The arrest comes at a bad time for the RFU, which is already under pressure following England’s disappointing performance at the World Cup in Japan. Eddie Jones’ side were knocked out in the semi-finals by South Africa.
The RFU will be hoping that Vunipola’s arrest does not damage the team’s reputation further. The incident is likely to be a major talking point ahead of England’s next match, against France in the Six Nations Championship on 2 February.
Kind regards
C. Dixon.
