Young star to broaden NFL skillset
Former Pittsburgh Steelers General Manager Doug Whaley has implored the young wide receiver to expand his game and become more versatile on the field.
Whaley, who is now an analyst for SiriusXM NFL Radio, spoke about Pickens on a recent episode of The Pat McAfee Show. He said that he believes Pickens has the potential to be a great player in the NFL, but that he needs to work on developing his all-around game.
Versatility is key
George Pickens is a talented player, but he needs to become more versatile, said Whaley. He can’t just be a deep threat. He needs to be able to play in the slot, he needs to be able to block, and he needs to be able to catch the ball in traffic.
Whaley said that he thinks Pickens can become a complete receiver if he is willing to put in the work. He pointed to the example of Davante Adams, who went from being a deep threat in Green Bay to becoming one of the most versatile receivers in the NFL.
Work hard, achieve goals
If George Pickens wants to be a star in this league, he needs to work on becoming more versatile, said Whaley. He has the talent, he just needs to put in the effort.
Pickens has shown flashes of brilliance in his young career, but he has also been inconsistent at times. He has the potential to be a Pro Bowl player, but he needs to work on his overall game if he wants to reach his full potential.
- Blocking
- Running routes
- Catching the ball in traffic
- Playing in the slot
If Pickens can make these improvements, he has the potential to be one of the best receivers in the NFL.
Kind regards J. Brown.
