Right-hander dealing with shoulder discomfort
The Los Angeles Dodgers have halted Brusdar Graterol’s throwing program after the right-hander experienced shoulder discomfort, manager Dave Roberts announced Monday.
MRI scheduled
Graterol will undergo an MRI on Tuesday to determine the severity of the issue.
We backed him off because he was complaining of a little bit of soreness in his shoulder, Roberts said. We just wanted to be cautious. It’s the same shoulder he had the impingement in last year. Hopefully, it’s just a little bit of something minor.
Graterol missed the final two months of the 2022 season with right shoulder impingement syndrome.
Recent struggles
The 24-year-old has struggled in his first four appearances of the 2023 season, posting a 12.27 ERA and 2.64 WHIP in 5 1/3 innings.
Graterol was charged with three runs on three hits and two walks in one inning of relief against the Arizona Diamondbacks on Sunday.
Depth tested
The Dodgers are already without setup man Blake Treinen, who is on the 15-day injured list with a right shoulder strain.
If Graterol is forced to miss an extended period of time, the Dodgers will need to rely on other relievers to step up, such as Phil Bickford, Evan Phillips and Caleb Ferguson.
Kind regards,
