Hernandez Struggles in Spring Training
The Los Angeles Dodgers have designated right-handed pitcher Jose Hernandez for assignment, the team announced Saturday. The move comes after Hernandez struggled in spring training, posting an 8.18 ERA in 10.1 innings pitched.
Hernandez Traded to Dodgers in 2022
Hernandez was acquired by the Dodgers in a trade with the Pittsburgh Pirates in August 2022. He made six appearances for Los Angeles last season, allowing three runs in 5.2 innings.
Hernandez Pitched in Triple-A Last Year
After struggling in the majors, Hernandez was sent down to Triple-A Oklahoma City, where he pitched to a 5.26 ERA in 15 outings. He recorded 42 strikeouts and walked 22 batters in 34.1 innings.
Hernandez’s Options
Hernandez has seven days to be traded, released, or assigned to the minors. If he is not claimed by another team, he will likely be outrighted to Triple-A Oklahoma City.
Hernandez, 26, has pitched in parts of five major league seasons with the Pirates and Dodgers. He has a career ERA of 6.32 in 62.1 innings.
Dodgers’ Roster Moves
The Dodgers’ 40-man roster now stands at 39 players. The team will need to make another roster move before the start of the regular season on March 30.
- The Dodgers could trade Hernandez to another team.
- The Dodgers could release Hernandez and pay him the remainder of his contract.
- The Dodgers could outright Hernandez to Triple-A Oklahoma City.
