Bad Luck or Serious Mistake
Manuel Neuer has been heavily criticized by the press following the DFB team’s test match against Oman. The goalkeeper made a serious mistake that led to the Omanis taking the lead.
Neuer came out of his goal to clear a long ball, but he misjudged the flight of the ball and allowed it to bounce over his head. Oman’s Muhsen Al-Ghassani was on hand to tap the ball into an empty net.
Neuer Defends His Actions
Neuer defended his actions after the match, saying that he was trying to prevent Oman from scoring a goal.
I saw the ball coming over my head and I tried to clear it, Neuer said. But I misjudged the flight of the ball and it went over my head. It was a mistake, but I was trying to do the right thing.
Press Blasts Neuer
The press, however, was not as forgiving as Neuer. Many newspapers and websites criticized the goalkeeper for his mistake.
It remains to be seen whether Neuer will be able to regain his form in time for the World Cup. However, his mistake against Oman has raised questions about his ability to lead the DFB team to glory in Qatar.
