Haney Alleges Garcia Used Illegal Boxing Tactics
Devin Haney is making a formal request to the New York State Athletic Commission (NYSAC) to have his fight with Ryan Garcia ruled a disqualification loss for Garcia.
Haney lost a unanimous decision to Garcia in a lightweight bout on Saturday night. However, Haney is protesting the result, claiming that Garcia used illegal boxing tactics.
Specifically, Haney alleges that Garcia used:
- Leading with his head
- Elbowing
- Punching below the belt
Haney says that these tactics caused him significant pain and affected his ability to fight.
The NYSAC is currently reviewing Haney’s request. If the commission agrees with Haney’s allegations, it could overturn the result of the fight and rule it a disqualification loss for Garcia.
This would be a major blow to Garcia’s career. He is currently one of the most popular fighters in the sport and is seen as a future world champion. A disqualification loss would damage his reputation and could derail his momentum.
It is unclear at this time what the NYSAC will decide. However, Haney’s request is sure to spark controversy and could have a significant impact on the lightweight division.
Kind regards
